Picture
SWEEP! That's what was being said in the stands last Thursday evening at Baldwin Park High School as Covina High's Track teams completed a season sweep of the league going undefeated on all three levels. The boys varsity, girls varsity, and FS boys teams easily defeated the Braves capping a memorable league season.  The team depth for CHS was no match for the improved Braves team. More Records Fall at SGV's!

Picture
Alondra Elizalde shocked even herself with a big personal best in the 1600 that also was a SCHOOL RECORD! Alondra nipped teammate Ashli Baddorf's current school record in the 1600 by a few tenths of a second. It remains to be seen who finishes this season on top as both friendly teammates and rivals will be battling back and forth for the remainder of the season. Emily Sanchez also bettered her own school record in the triple jump to now be at 36'7"! Her mark along with Belle Chiu who placed 2nd in the 200 hurdles have top marks in CIF Division III. The boys team had high places by Dominic Montes in the long jump and triple jump. All through the hot humid day there were a number of great performances as the Colts get ready for league finals.

Colts Tame the Wildcats!

Picture
The team continued to roll through league putting the Wilson Wildcats to bed easily winning all three divisions at CHS this past Thursday. Although Wilson rolled up to CHS with nearly as many athletes as the Colts, CHS proved that their overall depth and determination to victory would be too much to overcome. Poised by great performances by the distance team and field events, each team won handily versus their opponents. Next up is the SGV Championships versus the best in the valley on Saturday.

Friday evening, Emily bettered her own previous school record in the triple jump by bounding 35'11" taking 4th place. The following day, Belle readied herself for this once in a lifetime opportunity and seized the moment by taking 2nd place in her race and breaking the school record in the 300 hurdles. Both have set high goals for the remainder of the season.

Covina Visits Monrovia

In a head to head rematch for the girls team from last Saturday's Cougar Classic, Monrovia High School showed why they are one of the top track teams in our division. Their sprint team was too much for the Colts as they again defeated our girls team. The boys team also fell to the dominant Wildcats. "Monrovia is a strong program in the area and that is why we want to schedule them. We need to compete against the best to make sure we are ready for league dual meets and CIF down the road", said Boys Coach Kevin Glaspy. "This will only make us better and let our athletes know where we stand in the big picture."

Colts End League Season With Red Devils

Picture
On a beautiful Tuesday afternoon the Colts took on the Pomona Red Devils in the Valle Vista League finale. Pomona had few numbers to keep pace with the Colts in what turned into a rout on all three levels. The girls took control early with a nice win in the 4x100 by Ashli Baddorf, Sydnie Williams, Amena Williams, and Erika Tornero. A sweep in the 1600 showed that the depth was just not there for Pomona. On the boys varsity side, Mike Jarquin and Demetrus Taylor led the 1-2-3 punch in the pole vault each clearing 11'6" and 11'0" respectively. The boys frosh-soph team will be outright league champions with Northview losing to Baldwin Park and Pomona really didn't have much to face against the frosh-soph boys. The team will continue next week with league prelims on Tuesday 5/3 and league finals 5/5 all at Baldwin Park HS. The cost to watch in $5 for adults and $3 for children. This meet will conclude the season for much of the team that do not qualify for CIF competition the next week.
