Covina Secures League Titles!

Picture
The Northview dual meet always brings out the best in both school for this neighboring rivalry.  Fortunately for the Colts, Covina was able to pull off victories at each level sealing the league championship for the boys varsity, girls varsity, and boys fs teams. The boys varsity matchup came down to the final two events and CHS needed to either capture the 4x400 relay or place at least 3rd in the triple jump to win.  Both scenarios happened as Covina won the relay and secured a 3rd place mark in the triple jump.

The 22nd Annual Covina Invite was a huge success. The meet ran on schedule, the crowd was cheering, performances were great, and Covina High Track pulled off some nice victories.  For the fourth time this year the CHS Track team took home a 1st Place trophy from an invitational. As the FS boys set their own team goal of winning their own invite, they came through defeating Damien in a close battle to the last event.  This is the third FS title for the FS Boys this season. Sophomore distance runner Kevin Herrera was named FS Athlete of the meet for capturing the 1600 and 3200 and leading his team to a victory. Ruben Retana also contributed with a 1st place in the discus and 2nd place in the shot put. Bonita HS won the girls varsity division led by distance runner Marissa Scott and South Hills captured the boys varsity title.

The Covina High Track team continued with its fantastic season capturing first place in the Division II boys varsity and girls varsity divisions. The team also took first place for the best combined total score of a boys and girls team showing their dominance.  Dominating is an understatement for the performance of the athletes last Saturday. The team received a medal in almost every event they entered and the B team for the boys also won a handful of top three places.  The rest of division II couldn't keep up with the Colts team depth and solid performances. Next week we continue with league vs. San Dimas and Nogales as well as hosting our Covina Invite onSaturday the 30th.

Colts Trade Trophies at District Meet

In a meet featuring Covina High, South Hills, and Northview representing the Covina Valley Schools the Colts ended up simply trading trophies with South Hills.  Last year South Hills captured the girls district title while the Covina boys took the 2012 crown. This year the tables turned on both teams and Covina girls took the title and South Hills boys edged the Covina boys by a mere 6 points. Covina did however caputure the FS boys title. Northview placed 3rd in all divisions.

Covina Represents at Cougar Classic! FS Boys Take the Title!

In another meet with great weather, Covina High started its invitational season off on the right foot by opening up with a big win by one point over Walnut in the FS Boys division.  The FS girls also proved to be a tough customer capturing third in their division. Boys varsity placed 5th with some of the key athletes dropping to FS and the GV finished 4th.  With over 20 schools in attendance, Covina High showed its balance and team depth with no team placing worse than 5th in any division.
